06/22/2023

What: The Blue Umbrella Farmers Market
When: Friday, June 23, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 2 pm
Where: Corner of 7th and Main St. in downtown Little Rock

More Details: Residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities who live at the Arkansas Department of Human Services’ five Human Development Centers will sell produce, plants, crafts, and more this Friday at the annual Blue Umbrella Farmers Market.

Some residents from the state’s five HDCs tend on-site gardens and harvest produce and plants to be sold at the market, and others create handmade crafts that are available to buy as gifts. The event is open to the public.

“The Blue Umbrella Farmers Market is one of our most anticipated events of the year,” said Melissa Weatherton, Director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services. “We are excited to support our Human Development Centers and help foster a sense of independence and purpose in our beneficiaries with developmental and intellectual disabilities.”

The market is an extension of The Blue Umbrella, a unique gift shop inside the DHS Central Office building that embraces inclusion for all. Items sold in the store are also handmade by individuals across Arkansas with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Hamburger and hot dog combo plates will be available at the market with a suggested donation of $6-$12. All burger and hot dog proceeds will be donated to the HDC Resident Holiday Gift Fund.
