Meet the Chief of Security and Compliance Officer

Brett Hays serves as the Chief of Security and Compliance. He started his career with DHS in 2010 with the Division of Medical Services and returned in 2018 as the Director of Internal Controls. Prior to rejoining DHS, Brett had a private law practice and served as the Director of Audits and Investigations for the Office of Medicaid Inspector General. He attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law and was admitted to the Arkansas Bar in September 2009.
Office Overview
The Office of Security and Compliance is comprised of four different units that are charged with overseeing internal controls, program recipient fraud investigations, internal affairs investigations and safety and security for the agency. These areas of focus are assigned to four different units.
Internal Controls – Responsible for agency audit coordination, audit response, and corrective action and internal control development along with serving as the main line of communication for state and federal auditors.
Fraud Investigation– Investigates SNAP, Medicaid, and TEA program recipient fraud.
Internal Affairs – Conducts fact-finding investigations for the agency.
Safety and Security – Oversees agency safety, security and emergency response operations.
