DHS set to launch new Medicaid Management Information System Nov. 1
The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) announced today that it will launch its new Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) Wednesday, Nov. 1. The new system will streamline claims processing and provide a more efficient reimbursement method for both providers and the state. Doctors and hospitals will now have the ability to submit claims and other documents electronically.
The new MMIS replaces the current system, which is more than 30 years old and runs on outdated mainframe technology. In State Fiscal Year 2016, the current system processed more than 45 million claims submitted by providers.
“When implementing any system this size, there will no doubt be issues that come up, but we have worked hard to minimize the risks and are prepared to quickly address any issues that arise,” said Division of Medical Services Director Rose Naff. "We have conducted extensive training across the state for Medicaid providers to get acquainted with the new system and internally we tested 350,000 claims. We will continue testing the system all the way up to November."
DHS and Arkansas Medicaid have worked closely with the Arkansas Hospital Association, the Arkansas Medical Society and other related businesses to help providers prepare for the new system. Some Medicaid providers still need to take action so that they will be able to submit claims and get paid after Nov. 1. Providers – or their billing entities – must obtain a new “trading partner ID” to submit electronic claims in the new system (trading partner IDs replace submitter IDs). Without this, payments will be delayed.
In addition, providers must register on the new provider portal in order to access new services, such as real-time eligibility verification, submitting electronic claims, reviewing claim statuses, and submitting prior authorization forms and other documentation.
Providers can obtain a trading partner ID and register for the portal by going to this link https://www.medicaid.state.ar.us/provider/FL_HELP.html. Providers with questions should email Tim Taylor at [email protected].
