Meet the Chief Communications & Community Engagement Officer
Amy Webb services as the Chief Communications and Community Engagement Officer. In this role, she oversees the Department’s internal and external communication efforts, media relations, the Freedom of Information Act unit, the DHS website, and DHS social media accounts. In the last few years, Amy has intensified efforts to improve how DHS communicates with its beneficiaries so that they are dealing less with “government speak” and acronyms and more with language they use every day. Amy grew up in Texas and graduated with a degree in communications from Lamar University before moving to Arkansas to be a newspaper reporter. Once there, she earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She met her husband, Walter, at the newspaper, and left the business after a 15-year career as an award-winning journalist to serve at DHS. She is a Girl Scout volunteer and is passionate about working with non-profit organizations that serve children and teens who are or have been in foster care.
