at 40th Annual Arkansas Community Service Awards June 2

(Little Rock, Ark.) – Cowboys owner and North Little Rock native Jerry Jones will be honored Friday evening, June 2 as the state’s Distinguished Citizen at the Governor’s Mansion as part of the 40th Annual Arkansas Community Service Awards ceremony. Jones is among a dozen honorees who will be celebrated at the event. Everett Buick GMC of Benton will receive the Corporate Humanitarian Award.

The awards are sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Human Services Office of Communications and Community Engagement and KARK Channel 4, together with McLarty Automotive Group, the Office of the Governor and the Governor’s Advisory Commission on National Service and Volunteerism.

Since 1978, the Arkansas Community Service Awards have been presented annually to four categories of recipients: individual adults, youth, corporations, and one National Service member.  Award honorees are selected on the basis of their outstanding volunteer service, demonstrating conscientiousness and unselfishness that benefits the community at large and exemplifies the highest ideals of humanitarianism.  Award recipients are selected by statewide committees comprised of outstanding community leaders and volunteers, including past winners.

Individual Award honorees for 2017 are Christie Johnson of Conway; Selena Ellis of Benton; Virgie Phillips of Lake View; and Eric and Kara Gilmore, Sarah Adams, Britney Spees and Peyton Welch, all of Little Rock. Alexis Roberson of Caraway will receive the Youth Humanitarian Award. The Corporate Humanitarian Award will be given to Everett Buick GMC of Benton. The National Service Award will go to Beau Cooper of North Little Rock.

The ceremony will be televised by Channel 4 July 15 at 6:30 p.m. However, a limited number of tickets are available for $65 each for the June 2 banquet and must be purchased in advance by contacting Laura Kellerman at [email protected].
