Matt and Laura Smith — Area 4 Foster Family of the Year

When Matt and Laura Smith first entered the world of foster care, their hearts were set on helping behind the scenes to recruiting and train families in their area. But something greater was stirring in their hearts, and now five years later, the Smiths have welcomed nearly 100 children into their home as foster parents.

Through her work with The CALL, Laura is a tireless advocate for children and for DCFS. She’s the one who answers caseworker calls late at night, brings lunch to kids waiting at the office, organizes visitation rooms, and goes above and beyond to lighten the load for others. Matt uses his voice and his business to support foster care awareness and recruitment efforts, even speaking at churches and events to inspire others to join the mission.

The Smiths have faced challenging placements that would have caused many to walk away, but through it all, they’ve responded with grace, faith, and unwavering love.

Matt and Laura Smith embody the very heart of foster care. They are advocates, healers, encouragers, and tireless warriors for children, families, and DCFS staff.
