Lori Cooper – Area 2 Foster Family of the Year
Fort Smith, Arkansas
At one point in Lori Cooper’s life, she was looking forward to peace and quiet – her own space, her own plans. But that all changed after a conversation with her daughter about how important fostering is.
After agreeing to serve as a respite home for short-term placements, Lori’s life quickly transformed into something much greater.
Lori’s first “yes” was to two sisters. That yes led to something deeper: a true understanding of how much teens in foster care need someone to see their worth and their value. Lori had her mission, and she jumped at the opportunity to keep a sibling group of four teenagers together. Her willingness to open her heart and home has helped preserve the bond of family for children who might have otherwise been separated.
Lori is a fierce advocate for the children in her care. She doesn’t wait for answers – she seeks them and insists on action when there are educational gaps, medical concerns, or emotional needs.
In her home, she meets trauma with patience, frustration with grace, and every challenge with determination. When many others would give up, she digs deeper. She believes healing starts with safety, love, and sometimes… just a hug.
Congratulations, Lori Cooper, our Area 2 Foster Family of the Year!
