Julie Meyer:
The fellowship program was a great opportunity for professional growth. I was able to make useful professional connections across Arkansas. I gained a great understanding of how the government agencies work together. At the conclusion of the fellowship, I was even offered a job at DHS where I continue to use several of the skills I learned during the fellowship in my position today.

Evaluation and impact studies are my areas of interest. However, my knowledge in this area was limited to theory. Through this Fellowship, I got an opportunity to put my theoretical knowledge into practice.

For me, my post graduate fellow's experience helped build a bridge between academia and practical application. As a law student, one of my primary areas of interest was Business Organization and Development. Through the DHS Fellowship for Public Service, I was afforded an opportunity to work with a grassroots organization and provide consultation related to the organization's governance, sustainability, and accountability. Academia meets practice; and giving back to the state I love...invaluable experience. |
